A National Historic Landmark
The historic Surf Ballroom of Clear Lake Iowa, a Mid-Century Modern Style of American architecture. Designed by Mason City architects Hansen & Waggoner and built in 1948. Infamous for being the site of the Winter Dance Party in February 1959 and tragically the last performances of original rockers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson the Big Bopper.
I had the privilege to visit the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa this summer and experience the music of Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives.
Here are just a few photos of the ballroom from my brief stay in Clear Lake.
