This shop building is part of a working hazelnut farm in Laurel, Oregon, just off Campbell Road.
From its interesting shape and building materials, this old shop uses a traditional Dutch roof covered in corrugated sheet metal and built on concrete “cinder block” walls, which appear to be from the 1920’s or 30’s. As early as 1915, farmers could order equipment out of the Sears & Roebuck catalog to build their own concrete blocks on-site, which could be the case here. Later after WWII, concrete masonry units (CMU) were standardized into the common 8”x8”x16” modules we see today.
